BASEMENT WATER PROOFING AND OTHER WATER PROOFING NEEDS

Waterproofing and protective coating solutions come in a variety of forms. It can be applied to above grade or below grade decks, exterior walls, slabs, foundations, retaining walls or basement walls. Homeowners can depend on our experienced staff to ensure that the proper products are recommended to address the specific situation. Waterproofing materials are often “rubber” based and have the ability to bridge cracks and should be distinguished from some damp proofing products which are “tar” based and will not provide waterproof protection. Efflorescence is a typical indicator of water and excessive moisture. It is the white chalky substance which appears on concrete or block walls. Two common methods of preventing water intrusion are: Concrete Foundation Waterproofing

  • Waterproofing Membranes. The white chalky substance on foundation or retaining walls is called efflorescence. It is a clear indicator of water and excessive moisture. Typically, a water intrusion problem is addressed by excavating along the exterior or “positive” side of the foundation and applying waterproofing compounds or membrane to the foundation wall. Membranes should be accompanied by good drainage to be most effective. This involves adding a perforated drain pipe surrounded by gravel and wrapped with fabric at the base of the trench to drain excess water.

  • Concrete Waterproofing by Crystallization. In the event that it is not possible to apply waterproofing to the exterior or “positive” side, there are products available that can be applied to the interior or “negative” side of a foundation or retaining wall. The application of specialized products using this method will require several months for the curing process to completely crystallize throughout the entire wall.
Homeowners can depend on our experienced staff to ensure that the proper products are recommended to address the specific situation. Whichever waterproofing solution is selected, it is important that they be applied properly. Our trained field technicians are qualified to install a waterproofing system which can keep your crawlspace or basement dry for many years.
